日本とアメリカ：私のいけん

今年のお正月は。。。どこにも行かないつもりです。でもたくさんりょうりを作って、おいしいものをたくさん食べるつもりです。

日本の お正月は一月一日です。日本人はお正月にたいていおせちりょうりspecial new year's meal)やおぞうに(=rice cake soup)を食べます。ねんがじょう(=new year's card)を書いたり、じんじゃやおてらにおまいりに行きます。子どもはかぞくにおとしだま（おかね）をもらいます。

日本とアメリカ：私は日本のひこうきのほうがアメリカのひこうきよりずっとすきです！日本のひこうきのほうがきれいだし、とてもサービスがいいからです！それに、機内食（きないしょく、in-flight meal)もおいしいですよ！(^o^)

私はアメリカの中で、サンフランシスコがいちばんすきです！きれいだし、Japantownがあるし、食べ物がおいしいし、しんせき(=relatives)や友だちが住んでいるからです。

Lesson 10: 日本とアメリカ

Part 1: interview
Let's learn about New Year's in Japan! Let's find out what Japanese students on campus think about US vs. Japan on various topics! Find a Japanese student/person on campus and ask the following questions. Use your own questions for #3 & 4.

Interview questions:

1. 今年のお正月は何をするつもりですか。
2. 日本人はお正月にたいてい何をしますか。
3. *Comparison:  日本とアメリカ (e.g., 食べ物、大学、せいかつ、天気, etc.)、どうしてですか。
4. *～の中で～がいちばん～ですか。どうしてですか。
    

Part 2: write up

(1)   Blog posting: Go to your blog site and post the followings (Due by 1pm on Monday, 10/18):

a)      In Japanese, write a summary of the interview result using ～と言っていました。
Do not list sentences. Instead, organize your summary paragraph utilizing sentence connecters such as  そして、それから、でも、～てform, and reason から.

b)      In written English comment on the interview through the lens of:

ü  Similarities/differences between the US and Japan, OR

ü  Interesting/new findings about the interview topics, OR

ü  What you want to know more about similarities/differences between the US and Japan

(2)   Comment posting: Read one of your classmates’ blog entry and post your comments. Your comments can be in Japanese or English. (Due by 1pm on Friday, 10/22)
